Field of Screams Maryland

For the 2020 Halloween season, Field of Screams, the #1 haunted house in the DMV area, has opted to close its indoor haunted house, and connect its two outdoor haunted trails to create one, long trail experience. The lovely folks invited me out this past weekend to share what it’s like.

Upon arrival, you are escorted by a hostess to a socially-distant table for up to six with a small bonfire nearby. Concessions are served until it’s time to walk the trail. The temperatures just dropped here in the DMV so the hot cider kept me toasty by the bonfire until we started on the trail. The fried Oreos were simply amazing! They melted in my mouth. While we waited for our turn (about 15 minutes), I looked around extremely impressed by the organization and COVID precautions that were in place. I felt 100% safe.

Precautions for COVID-19:

Mandatory mask-wearing at all times

Touchless ticketing process with timed admission times

Actors along the trail stay six to 13 feet away from you

Limited number of attendees

No pre- or post- congregating

Cleaning stations, masks, social distancing and all other requirements will be closely monitored.

Cameras and video aren’t allowed on the outdoor trail that takes about 45 minutes to complete. To be completely honest I don’t even know why I agreed to go because I am super scary. I actually hate scary movies because they make me have wild dreams. Beware, since the trail is outside, there are pockets were it was completely pitch black! Don’t let that scare you because I promise it was more fun than scary. The props and effects were dope! Insider tip: wear layers for while you wait and wear sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty/muddy.
